Those are some of the song titles that appear on Eximinous Execration of Exiguous Exequies, which is as Carcass-minded as it gets. In grindcore and death metal circles, Carcass is known for having song titles that read like a medical textbook -- and Bodies Lay Broken, following Carcass' lead, comes up with a lot of titles that you're unlikely to understand unless you have advanced medical knowledge. In fact, some of the medical terms that this Minnesota band comes up with are so esoteric and arcane that they don't appear in the spell-check programs of conventional software applications; one would probably need some type of specialized medical software to adequately spell-check this CD's song titles. But then, Bodies Lay Broken isn't trying to impress doctors. Like Carcass' releases, this disc offers a big dose of sick, twisted humor that is aimed at die-hard grindcore enthusiasts. Eximinous Execration of Exiguous Exequies has the usual grindcore ingredients -- insanely fast tempos, dark themes, and a choked, demonic-sounding, larynx-shredding vocal style -- and Bodies Lay Broken does it in a consistently humorous way. Ultimately, this tongue-in-cheek CD is more amusing than disturbing -- at least if one has a taste for dark humor. The band doesn't offer much in the way of variety; after the first few tracks, listeners have pretty much heard it all. Nor is this derivative effort the least bit groundbreaking. But for die-hard grindcore enthusiasts -- that is, headbangers who still appreciate the inside joke -- Eximinous Execration of Exiguous Exequies offers a fun and entertaining, if predictable, dose of bombast.
