简介
Cais (Portugues for ‘wharf’ or ‘quay’) is the 2nd track from ‘Clube da Esquina’ - the seminal 1972 double album by a collection of Brazilian artists led by Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges. It is also the name of the new collaborative album by Irish musician Johnny Fox and Brazilian artist Samantha Capatti. Johnny and Samantha, who now live by the beach in Wexford, Ireland, previously spent 18 months living together in a one-room flat in Anhangabau, in the centre of São Paulo, and it was here, 16 stories above the chaos and concrete of South America’s largest city, that the seeds were sewn for this record. The music of Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque and various other ‘mestres’ of Brazil’s golden era of the 60s and 70s as well as contempory artists such as Cicero, Marcelo Camelo and Hurtmold provided the soundtrack, and all of the beautiful and conflicting extremes of life in São Paulo provided the context. Samantha wrote words and Johnny wrote music (each quite independently of one another) and once back in Ireland, work began to combine the two into something to reflect both sides of the same story. Both Johnny’s sound and Samantha’s visual and poetic style on Cais see the developement upon previous work, but as Johnny’s 1st album in Portugues and Samantha’s 1st concerted attempt to present a series of her writings, the album represents new and interesting ground for both artists.
