简介
Richard Grainger is a son of Middlesbrough. He grew up among the steel works and ships, the chimneys and chemical works of this town in North Yorkshire in the industrial North East of England. The first song he composed was written in praise of this place and 30 years later his origins are still reflected in much of his writing. Middlesbrough, as a creative centre, is little heard of. It was the songs of Graeme Miles from the 1960's that put Teesside on the map and Richard Grainger follows firmly in his footsteps. This collection of songs is the result of an exhibition and heritage project of the same name established in 1999 by the Middlesbrough Dorman Museum. For this first exhibition of the peoples history of Middlesbrough he was asked to tell the story of the town through folk music and the 'Town In Time' collection of songs and tunes on this CD remains the most comprehensive collection of Teesside songs available today. Richard is joined here by his great friend and mentor, Ron Angel ,who supplied the instrumental music , leading the Klondike Band on flute and tin whistle . Other artists included are Teesside's well known accapella group The Wilson Family who appear at many major UK festivals and have recently completed a project with Sting for his musical 'The Last Ship'. There are many other well known Teesside musicians taking part such as Steve Dawes, Judith Haswell, Trish Lucas, Olivia Charlton, Anne Jones, Mike Shorttle, John Lawson and many more. So sit back ,and let Richard Grainger and friends introduce you to the Boro - Middlesbrough!
