“Even Dylan would love this,” said View Magazine about music from Leslie Alexander, who grew up on an Alberta sheep farm & couldn't wait to hit the road, make a bunch of mistakes & write songs about them. She wound up singing on a street corner for spare change & does not consider this a mistake. Since then, Leslie’s toured across North America, sharing concert and festival stages with her own band or opening for the likes of Jane Siberry, Harry Manx, Mary Gauthier and many others. Three independent CD releases have garnered critical acclaim, international airplay and honorable mentions from the ISC and Billboard Song Competitions, as well as cuts with other artists & licenses for television & film. Joining forces with performing songwriter Jenny Allen, Leslie workshopped material for her fourth studio release as one half of the new duo “Allen & Alexander” on their “Love’m or Leave’m Tour 2010.” Sharing vocals, multiple instruments and much in common with her fellow native Albertan, Leslie is rapidly filling up her calendar as the pair travel “clean across Canada” on their upcoming “Dirty Laundry Dual CD Release Tour 2011.” “The music & material go hand in hand to create a landscape that's familiar, yet filled with so much to explore," said the Calgary Sun about Leslie’s second record “Savage Country.” Today, Leslie is still exploring, but the landscape of “Nobody’s Baby” is internal, as well as evocative of new horizons. Along with BCCMA Producer of the Year John Ellis (Be Good Tanyas, Jane Siberry) Alexander covers territory between the personal and universal with ten startlingly original tunes that haunt the listener like déjà vu. On disc or onstage, tracing influences from Tin Pan Alley to swamp rock, from hootenanny to honky-tonk, Leslie’s songs about old flames and fresh blood will take you all the beautiful and terrifying places she’s been.
