Gods & Devils is the debut album from Muntu Valdo. Sixteen extraordinary tracks of emotion, feeling, sensuality and spirituality. Each track carries us closer to the album’s essence: a fusion of tender, powerful melodies portraying the duality of humankind in all its truth and fantasy, materiality and idealism; a music that evokes the contrasts which define life and the artist...god and devil, good and bad, left and right, dark and light, “moiyé na muititi”. Listening to the album, the gentle velvety blues of Leta and Nem Wem contrast with the vitality and vindication of Di mala and Da lassu. The evocative melancholy of Di sibi and Gods and Devils (recognized by critics for their compositional prowess) oppose the passionate, invigorating rhythms of L’Afrique et son beat and Ye male… The entire album is shaped by this opposition of styles with an underlying acoustic feel. Even the homages to Jean-Jacques Goldman, Filles Faciles, and Toto Guillaume, Emene Marie, are ways for the artist to show that he composes his music to spread his vision of the world while remaining open to the multiple visions of those around him.
