简介
At the century's dawn, I was tired of making recordings. Despite working in the most modern (and vintage) studios in New Orleans, I felt I'd hit the limits of record production. So I went minimal. With a teeny Korg 8 track, my trusty old Atari ST, a $50 gut string and a Silvertone amp, I set out to make the least record you could. And I think I succeeded. The tracks: "Sidewalls and a Tarpolean" is an ode to a truck and the joys of hauling stuff. "Not Enough" is the first of a long series of songs I wish Chris Isaac would cover. Video at youtube.com/LouieLudwig "Stepping Out in Babylon" is a little reggae tune about love in humble circumstance. The odd little saxophone break came from a band practicing next door. "Those Days" is a memoir of my punk days. But not a punk song. "Dis Train" was a reaction to the election of George W. Bush and the willingness of my countrymen to embrace nihilism if its wrapped in a flag. "knowitallsuperstar" is a fun little rocker about TV, dreams and the ignorance of knowing it all. "There is No Time" was my first co-write with my friend Clark Vreeland, who shared vocal and instrumental duties. Call it a Buddhist gospel tune. "End of the World" is a simple little reggae number about love, loss and apocalypse. "Tommy's Mom" approximates a Lou Reed-narrated PSA on the dangers of overprescribing speed to distracted children. "Shoulda Listened to the Hippies" is self-explanatory. Rosie Rosato played percussion and Daisy Rosato (then just a kid) sang backup. Video at youtube.com/LouieLudwig "Clear Across the World" is a Celtic ballad about American johnnies sent to fight, and die, in faraway places. Peace, please. Bart Ramsey played guitar and accordion and Neti Vaandrager played fiddle and sang backup. Video at youtube.com/LouieLudwig "Send a Ham" is a Tom Lehreresque take on grief and chow. John Autin played the piano. Video at youtube.com/LouieLudwig "My Last Love Affair" is a tender little piece about love among those who've been around the block. Video at youtube.com/LouieLudwig
