简介
From the liner notes by Jason Wilber: A funny thing happened to me on the way to this record. Most of these songs were written when I was in my late teens and early twenties. Other than the song My Great Uncle Jim, I don’t think I have even performed any of these songs live since back then. We recorded Never Never Land and My Great Uncle Jim on an old 4 track reel to reel in 1992 or 1993. I think I started recording most of the rest of these songs sometime in 1994. Digital recording had just become affordable around that time and suddenly everyone I knew had a home studio. Michael White and Rick Wilson were both nice enough to let me use their new recording setups. Thanks again guys. Jamey Reid and I cut most of the rhythm guitar and drum tracks first. Then I did some overdubs on Madeline and a couple of other songs. Although I had been playing guitar in bands for about 10 years at that point, I hadn’t been singing for very long and I remember that I wasn’t all that happy with my vocal performances. So for that reason, or possibly because I got distracted by another project, or possibly because I was young and somewhat scatterbrained, or possibly because I just ran out of steam, I dropped the whole project midway through. Boxed up the tapes, stuck them in my closet, and forgot about them. From time to time over the years I was reminded of the orphaned project when one of these songs would drift through my head, or when I would move and have to carry the box of tapes from an old closet to a new one. “Hmmm, maybe I should finish this…”, I’d think, and then a few more years would go by. Fast forward to 2008. I don’t know why, but one day I decided it was time to finish this record. I dug the box out of my current closet and had the tapes transferred to a hard disk (now everyone has a laptop studio) and started working on them. I still wasn’t happy with those vocal performances, so I redid all the vocals, and then finished up the rest of the overdubs at home. I didn’t have recordings of Bottles or Chase Her, which were also written back then, so I called up Jamey and we cut those at Airtime Studios. Around this time I also wrote A Little Older Now and recorded it in my living room. It seemed like a fitting addition to the project, which ended up being kind of a collaboration between my current self and my younger self. It’s always interesting to catch up with an old friend. Thank you for listening. - Jason Wilber
