简介
The founding members of The Scarabs are Luke and David Hebditch. Luke started the band in Victor Harbor 2009, with two friends and then adding his brother David soon afterwards to be the vocalist. About a year after, The Scarabs became a three piece band, and David became the lead guitarist as well as being the vocalist. The band consisted of drums, bass, guitar and vocals. Later that year the original bass player moved on. A bit later a new player stepped in and the band moved forward again. The band was going well and later in the year they were chosen to open for Lowrider at The Gov towards the end of their tour in Australia. By the end of 2011, Luke and David were on their own again. This was so frustrating, just when all was going well. They also had a set of five original songs that they had written the previous year, and wanted to record them. Luke and David decided to record the EP anyway. They hired a bass player to play the parts they had written out. Luke and David tried to keep playing by busking and playing acoustic gigs. The money from doing this paid for recording the EP along the way. Luke and David adapted their songs from the electric band versions to acoustic versions for live performance. David played guitar and sang as usual, and Luke played the Cajon box, and experimented with vocal harmonies. Luke has now taken the role of backup vocalist as well as drumming. Playing acousticly for a long period of time also allowed David to focus on his vocals a lot more, and get to a much higher standard. By the end of term one of school, Luke, David and their parents decided it was time for them to leave the school they were in, and start at Brighton High School, where they auditioned for the special interest music program and were both accepted. The work load was a lot larger than they were used to so they had less time to play music after school. All the while they were trying to finish thier EP. It reached the end of 2012 and the EP was finally recorded. It was a long wait for people who wanted to hear it, and a frustrating time for Luke and David. So they decided to call the EP, "Trying Forever to Write this Letter". An obvious play on words, using names of some of the songs on the EP, but also a metaphor for, "Trying forever to finish this damn EP"! The EP is finally done, and despite the struggle, it has been a big learning curve for David and Luke and they have both grown and matured as musicians, and as people. Luke and David continue to write music that they would like to share with people, so all purchases of their music is highly appreciated and helps them to record new songs.
