简介

Storyline: The Old West meets The Twilight Zone when a sophisticated Angeleno visits a Western museum (full synopsis below). I adapted Museum Tour: The Musical from my 10-minute play, Museum Tour, writing the Book, Music, and Lyrics. The mini-musical's running time, including acting, singing and dancing, is approximately 11'. Characters: Amanda 30s, single, savvy screenwriter/director, Angeleno (Soprano) Front Desk Lady/Maybelle 20s, shy, polite with Southern accent (Alto) Frank 20s, brother of Maybelle, strapping, handsome cowboy with Southern accent (Baritone/Tenor) Synopsis: Amanda, a single screenwriter/director, rushes breathlessly into the Autry National Center in L.A. The Front Desk Lady calmly greets her and says “It’s free admission for you today, ma’am. We been expectin’ you.” Amanda is disappointed to see that the museum is closing in 15 minutes. Front Desk Lady tells her not to worry. [Song: The Traffic Drives Me Crazy/ Welcome To Our World]. Amanda decides to research her film online. Front Desk Lady entices her to stay by offering to tell the story of how she crossed the mountains. Amanda is surprised to see Front Desk Lady is wearing a long calico dress. She assumes it’s a costume. Front Desk Lady sings about her adventures coming out West. [Song: We Was Fightin' For Our Lives]. Amanda is impressed with Front Desk Lady’s talent and inquires if she is a member of the WGA or SAG and if she has an agent. Front Desk Lady is unfamiliar with those terms, but is hostile towards Land Agents. As they converse, Amanda discovers that Front Desk Lady hails from the same small Missouri town that her own family hails from. When Front Desk Lady calls Amanda by name, she freaks out. Front Desk Lady tells Amanda that the cries of her heart (about wanting to live in the days of the Old West) were heard. A handsome cowboy, Frank, enters and shakes Amanda’s hand. He is Front Desk Lady (Maybelle’s) brother. Amanda has had enough and turns to leave. Frank lassoes her. Amanda demands to be released, and Frank gives her a choice: “Walk out that door, back to your normal-average-borin’ life…or explore the Old West with me an’ Maybelle an’ some of our friends”. He mentions that Wyatt Earp is one of their friends. Maybelle reveals they’ve planned a big party in Amanda’s honor. Amanda is intrigued and decides to join them and take the Grand Tour. [Song: Come Join Us At The Party, including dance break]. Our wonderful cast is: Fay Gauthier (Amanda), Jennifer Pearce (Front Desk Lady/Maybelle), Neil Unger (Frank), with drums and banjo by John Akin and yours truly on piano. Museum Tour: The Musical had its world premiere during "The Start of Something Real, Short Plays and Musicals by Stephanie Hutchinson" in 2011 at the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood, CA.
