简介
“The Beauty sound like a minimalist version of Prince, or perhaps what Prince would have sounded like had he stopped being so funky and started taking instruction from the Flaming Lips or Radiohead...” In 2002, The Beauty’s simple idea was to cross Aphex Twin with Prince. In the ensuing years, after performing with Jamie Lidell, Chromeo, Aloe Blacc, Har Mar Superstar, Digitalism, Fujiya & Miyagi, and Menomena, the vocal trio’s mission to coax the soul from the circuits crystallized. Long-lived by youngster standards, The Beauty's longevity is attributed to the light carry-ons they use to aid in their heavy carryings-on. Mic cables in a gnarl-heap, dance moves on the ultra-cheap, tight choral reefs scratch up the delicates, and their new EP, MASH NOTES captures these jagged crags. The trio is currently chasing the styles of Shabazz Palaces, Flying Lotus, and FKA twigs. "Complicated and relentless, this [trio] is nothing like you'd expect, because it's hard to anticipate their mix of digital distort-crunch beats, near-Michael Jackson breathy beatbox yawps, and disturbing, unpredictable funkiness. This is the sound of Marvin Gaye getting himself a copy of GarageBand and bitsmashing the sh*t out of every drum loop. It makes sense that their MySpace page lists George Michael and Prince as influences; what's more of a head-scratcher is that, conceivably, someone reading this may not have yet pledged allegiance to the Beauty's funky flag."
