Pekelo's powerful chanting, accompanied by traditional percussion instruments, is adorned with his students' kahea (calls and answers), at times charming, haunting at others. Pekelo intended this collection to be a hula/chanter "primer," and the 28-page booklet gives the background of each chant along with Hawaiian lyrics and English translations. The youngest person ever to win the Kamehameha chant competition, Pekelo went on to teach and inspire 2 of Maui's most famous kumu hula: Keali`i Reichel and Uluwehi Guererro.
