Composer and pianist George Oakley is “one of the most brilliant talents … in his generation” (Paula Deitz, cultural critic). “There's a real sense of organic beauty in his music: the 'seed' ideas seem to develop quite naturally of their own accord. Mr. Oakley’s compositions for piano “Nostalgia & Toccata”were premiered at Carnegie Hall by his wife pianist Inga Kashakashvili; Solo Fantasia “Argonavts” was premiered at Jazz at Lincoln Center; and his String Quartet “Dictator”, dedicated to the August war in Georgia, had its premiere at Steinway Hall as part of a concert organized for Benefit for Georgia. Mr. Oakley served as a co-producer, composer and music editor for the Georgian-American documentary film” Misha vs. Moscow”, directed by John Philp. The Film was officially selected by 10th Tbilisi International Film Festival and was premiered at Amirani Cinema. In March 2010 the film presented at prestigious Frontline Club, London. “Misha vs. Moscow” also screens on The Documentary Channel throughout the first half of 2010. A native of Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, George began playing the piano at the age of eight and took composition lesson at the age of fifteen. After finishing the Z. Paliashvili Gymnazium for Gifted Children George continued his studies and earned BM from the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire. In 2001 he received full scholarship to participate in PianoSummer Festival at New Paltz. In the same year Mr. Oakley was the top prize winner at the Flier International Piano Competition. In 2003, Mr. Oakley was invited as a guest artist in the festival United Sounds of America, dedicated to 9/11 tragedy. In 2005 Mr. Oakley graduated with distinction from DePaul University, Chicago (MM in piano performance) in Eteri Andjaparidze's class. From 2003 to 2005 Mr. Oakley becomes a recipient of DePaul Performance Award and a member of Steinway Artist Ensemble - AmerKlavier Studio. Some of his performances were broadcasted by WFMT, Chicago’s classical radio station. Currently, Mr. Oakley is a featured student at New York University, Steinhardt where he is receiving Master degree in music theory and composition as a student of Ira Newborn (film scoring) and Justin Dello Joio (classical composition). Mr. Oakley as a co-producer is currently developing second film episode of the documentary series “In the Shadow of the Giant”. He was also commissioned to write cycle of songs for Soprano based on Shakespeare’s Sonnets that will be recorded and performed by opera singer Nika Leoni.
