简介
The comments below were sent to me, unsolicited, by my friend, Mark Heiman. They capture the essence of my music better than anything I could write myself: "I have now listened to your album at least 5 times. That is about 1775 kcal burnt since I did that while exercising. I really like that album and have several choruses in my head derived from your music usually when I Awaken in the Morning. I have listened enough of each song to anticipate my interpretation of the song’s message just from the musical introduction. The production is superb. Not just the beautiful guitar solos but the other musical voices. I like the bridge in every song. It usually offers a contrast to the basic melody. It is long enough to allow me to think about the first verse since I'm slow, and just when my mind starts to wonder and dive into the melody of the bridge, I get a reinforcing new verse of lyrics or a punch line. The climb in Till Morning Turns to Day is just perfect. The music blends well, sometimes appears to be just background to accompany the voice and other times it is featured and introduces the song, bridges verses or finish the song. The music does those things well and that is really what I listen for when hearing songs. I also very much like your voice(s). I especially like it in Awakening. I guess you also did the backup voices. My favorite backup section is in Till Morning Turns to Day. I like old school R & B when backup singers are essential. Like the Pips. They answer and emphasize and that is what I heard in that song. It brought me a smile. To me, the album represents advice about solving life problems. Sometimes the problem arises from being deceived by a friend like in “Hard to Deliver” or the loss of someone special like in “Awakening”. Whatever, the circumstance I hear you offering different solutions. I like “I Came Back for More” because that reminds me to focus on the things in my life that bring me pleasure rather than be obsessed with the problems that bring pain. I hear advice to not rush into finding solutions in “Let it Go” because of the refrain “there will be time enough so why not let it go”. On the other hand, I hear a sense of urgency to move on and take some action in “By Morning” and the refrain “please open your eyes”. In that song I hear “Waiting for help from above” and I love that part of the song. Because I am not a religious person, I interpret that as take action and don't wait for a spiritual solution. You may not have meant that but I am also sure you want your music to affect each listener in their personal way. In "Awakening" the first verse tells me how difficult it is to accept the loss of someone I care about. Then I get lost in that beautiful violin bridge and the next verse is about acceptance. And moreover, it is that which provides “the resurrected feeling” after acceptance. I love that line and that message. I also see contrasts for my problems and problem solving in your music. Sometimes take action, sometimes take your time, sometimes focus on the pleasurable things, and in “Rainbow Bay” I got perhaps the best lesson. “Open the window and release a memory” hit me very hard. I love that line and will probably never forget it. Too often when I think of my past, I’m only remembering the best of times. Then I get into a bad habit of thinking that the best of times have passed. I will open the window and also release some of those memories. I will air out my mind leaving plenty room for new best memories. Thank you for the gift of your music. I will be playing your music for my wife, kids, and friends over the next months. I'll let you know how they respond. I hope the next time that we are together that you can tell me what inspired you to discover these songs. I remember your story for Hard to Deliver and now that I have had a chance to not be influenced by your other stories, I would like to buy you a beer and listen."
