Tomske & Jitter are two beats & rhyme buddies influenced by big names like Eminem, D12, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, N.W.A, Xzibit, WuTang, Lil Jon, The Def Wish Cast, Bias B but also by just about any underground artist showing a bit of grit and determination. One Friday night, not so long ago, the duo came across Paul Buckberry busking on the streets of Sydney. Despite Paul specialising in a “Steamy Blues & Country Twang” style, the duo liked what they heard and bought one of Paul’s CD he’d recorded with his partner Deanne – the 2010 Buck & Deanne release called “DEMONS PASSED”. As Paul explains: “About two weeks later I got a call from Tomske who said they really liked track 11 from DEMONS PASSED, a thing I wrote called “The Matriarch Song”. Said they wanted to do a dubstep remix of it. I said, “A dub what now?” – Into the melting pot of electronica and acoustic went all the instruments and voices from the original version of Matriarch, plus some ominous synth patches, soulful glitches, and some of the slowest-heavy beats you’ll hear this side of the Pacific. The melding has resulted in the ushering in of a new variety of dubstep, both in terms of musical style and lyrical content. What would you call Dubstep & Folk?
