简介
In a world where change and uncertainty have become the new normal to a degree not experienced in previous generations, we look for a place to stand—a place from which to live, think, and love. Technology, war, economic stagnation, and other cultural forces often isolate us from one another, increasing our sense of alienation and bewilderment. In times of uncertainty songs of love and hope speak of another reality. They offer us a place to stand, one firmly anchored in the love and power of God. These songs remind us that God reaches out to us before we even know he is there. They express the joy and wonder we feel in a many-splendored, God-created universe, but also the loneliness of hope stretched thin even as the heart re-affirms its faith in a living, resurrected Jesus. And finally, these songs call us to place our hope and confidence in a God who will not abandon his world and those who seek him, in a God who is making all things new. In the heart of God we find a place to stand. Because of who he is, we can love and hope. When we started planning for this tour to the British Isles, we had very few leads or contacts. Though we quickly compiled a list of historically significant places we wanted to visit, concert venues were not as easy to find. Eighteen months later, however, we had secured seven programs in the UK and two programs stateside. While we wished for more in the UK, these programs represented a good range of opportunities, and we were optimistic about the possibilities. In addition to traveling to England as a choir and visiting historic sites, our vision for the tour included a desire to encourage Christians in England and to share our faith in a society that is rapidly becoming post-Christian. Planning to present choral music in England is not for the faint of heart. For centuries England has been producing and singing great choral music. This rich tradition has been a wonderful influence in so many parts of the world, and we felt trepidation about entering that scene with our music. Could we offer music in a meaningful way that would connect with our audiences? But we re-discovered that music is always autobiographical at some level. As we sang, we realized that we were offering not only the music, but also ourselves and the story of our lives in Christ. The hospitality we experienced was charming and lovely. The people we met and the friendships we formed were delightful and we felt enriched. Audiences received us warmly and their welcome drew the music out of us in ways we could not have anticipated.
