Shun Ng's debut album is a diverse collection of music ranging from complex virtuosic guitar-driven songs to honest simple ballads.

This album kicks off with the title track Funky Thumb Stuff, an exploration of the double thumb technique with an improvised solo flying with ghost notes and slick licks. Abruptly bursting into the next track "Slam!" with percussive vocal stylings and funky bass chops. Then smoothly transitioning into the bass-driving, bluesy Boogie Baby. The next few tracks slowly ease you into a journey of honest stories and bittersweet melodies with tracks like "Sometime in December" and "A Syllable or Two". The album comes close to the end, with groove based songs "These blues" and "Creepy crawlies" and eventually closing the album with a final explosive track. But before that, You are gently brought down to the sweet romantic ballad, "For You". Then finally to the exhilarating last track, "Christabel" with a flamboyant but musical array of percussive harmonics but concluding in a gentle and calm melody.

This album merely captures the beginning of Shun Ng's immense talent and virtuosic ability. The best is yet to be.
