简介
They say that three times is a charm. CHASE THE SUNSET - is the 3rd Solo Smooth Jazz CD from trumpeter, flugelhornist, and multi-instrumentalist, Bill McGee. Following in the tradition of "This One's 4U" and "Soul Man", Bill adds five (5) smooth originals to a blend of seven (7) R&B/Soul cover songs that make this a perfect choice for people seeking new musical experiences. CHASE THE SUNSET is a great collection of classic covers; including Stevie Wonder's - "I Wish" featuring Mike Spratley (vocals) on the last chorus and Brandon Lane on bass, Brandon's a 13 year old prodigy making his recording debut on this cut and Earth, Wind and Fire's - "Keep Your Head To The Sky". Then you get to hear the beautiful and talented Chyp Greene (Plunky & Oneness) on a classic Quiet Storm version of "Go Outside In the Rain". "Outside in the rain" alone makes this CD worth the purchase, this version is destined for years of Quiet Storm play at radio stations all over the world. It's just that smooth. The title song "Chase The Sunset" is a mood setter, the kind of song that you rewind to keep your groove smooth. It features Bill's long time musical co-writing partner, Tom Reaves on Guitar. This is the quintessential smooth jazz groove that takes you to another place and soothes all the daily stress (a must hear.) Another song to check is Bill's cover of "I Like The Way You Move", featuring Neo-DooWop group Bak N Da Day on vocals and James Saxsmo Gates on Sax, this version of the song is as classic as the original by Outkast and the Kenny G - Earth Wind and Fire Collaboration on the same song. Bill is one of the best multi-instrumentalist in the country and does all of the rhythm tracks except guitar and all of the brass work, when combined with the smooth blending of Bak N Da day, Saxsmo's intense sax solo and Tom Reaves' great guitar work, this song becomes one of the best ever recorded versions. Now, if you've purchased the first two albums you can testify that Bill McGee is a master at remaking Stylistic songs. This album features Bill and friend James Holden (Soprano Sax) on "STOP, LOOK & LISTEN". This is a great version of the smooth and classic hit, with a great Flugelhorn - Soprano Sax duet, frequent modulations and interesting background vocals arrangements. "The Groove" is dedicated to the TV show 24 featuring Keiffer Sutherland. (Bill's a huge fan) Which prompted him to write this song that is subtitled 24 Jack's Shanghai Groove. Based on the episode where Sutherland's character is kidnapped and transported on a slow boat to China. The star of this CD is "GOLD BABY", a tight groove that features Bill, Saxsmo, and Tom Reaves getting down with a fun and funky groove. The call and response on this song will have you singing along even though it's an instrumental. This song is dedicated to Bill McGee Sr. of Chicago, IL who was nick named Gold Baby at birth because his mother paid the hospital with Gold coins back in 1927. (The Gold was given to her by her husband, the famous gospel music pioneer, Bishop F.W. McGee, who was out of town when Bill, Sr. was born). Now, if you're a person who likes to move while you listen to your favorite song, then this CD has the perfect song for you. First heard by Bill in the movie "Shall We Dance", "SWAY" is the classic dance song recorded by The P**sy Cat Dolls and featured in the movie starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. Bill's rendition features Joe Taylor on Flute and Bill performing all of the brass and rhythm instruments. If you're alive, you'll have to move your body when you listen to this song. "What's Going On" is the Marvin Gaye classic which is performed to perfection on this CD by Saxsmo and Joshua Hodari (vocals). Another great track is the Earth, Wind and Fire Classic "Keep Your Head To The Sky" featuring Shawn Chappelle ("People Make The World Go Round"). Inspiration for this song came from the arrangement by Maysa Leake (Incognito). The songs "Chill" featuring popular smooth jazz guitarist and recording artist, Jim Adkins and "Kickin & Screamin" featuring pianist Debo Daney, are just as note worthy... the entire album is VERY GOOD MUSIC, professionally record by seasoned professionals. If you like Rick Braun, Chris Botti, Greg Adams, Kirk Whalum, Richard Elliot, Norman Brown, Dave Koz, Bob Baldwin, or Joe Sample, CHASE THE SUNSET will work well in your CD player. Buy it....
