"Regret & Moonshine" is a tune by East Tennessee artist Taylor Moorefield, featuring Richard Goad on drums and percussion. The main tune came together in relatively short time when Taylor was 18 years old, written in typical "singer-songwriter" fashion, sitting on his bed with an acoustic guitar, pen and paper. As the song matured over a few years, some lyrics and chord progressions were altered slightly to provide more variety. The folk-rock style of the tune was a wonderful challenge for Taylor to write - as a classical musician by training and a heavy metal musician primarily, the style of composition is not typical of his music. However, folk music is in his cultural roots and he happily rose to the challenge of stretching himself artistically. The song tells a story that many families have lived out in the southern United States - a broken family, poverty, sin, and hope for redemption. The line with the song's title sums up the song best - "this land smells of regret and of moonshine".
