In September 2009 I entered a recording studio with 12 songs. In the next month or so while tracking the first few songs I got word that my 87 year old father was in the hospital. The following March 16 of 2010 he died. My mom followed him a month and a half later on May 25th. Then on July 16 my wife's mother also passed away. From the day I got the news about my dad through all of 2010 my life was turned upside down. Nothing made sense and life lost meaning. Most of the original songs I planned on recording were shelved and instead other songs ; most conceived during this time of trial were chosen for this album. The writing and recording of these songs were like therapy for my soul and in the midst of completing this project I came to accept my loved ones passing from this life and was reminded of how blessed I was for having them. The title track Even Rainbows Fade was written right after hearing the news about my dad and it expresses my longing for those carefree days " when time was not essential " and the fact that life is short and we should follow our dreams. My mind went from non-acceptance ( i.e. the song: Why...... " will my life ever be the same " ) to depression ( the songs : Eternity and Just Give It Some Time " ....emotions rising, tears not hiding still I cry. " ) The album took a while to complete and during that time my heart slowly began to heal and my writing became more positive ( It's Real ; U Have 2 B ; Falling ). The songs Give Them A Sign ; Sweet Surrender and Following Light give affirmation of my belief that nothing happens without reason or cause and that cause is Divine. I was fortunate ( blessed ) to have Alan DiCato as my producer and musical partner and his endless patience and expertise added so much to my songs. At times he added perspective I didn't even think of and his choice of musicians enhanced the arrangements. I give kudos to all the fine players who lent their talents to this project and especially to my siblings: Steve, Jerry and Cynthia who I wanted to share in this experience. After over 2 years the album is completed and in so doing it has given my heart back the joy of living. Mom, Dad, Mama, Mommy "Shizue", Dadie and Sadao .... my dear friend , this album is dedicated to you. Thank you for being so much a part of my life. Len G.
