They say love happens when you’re least expecting it, for singer-songwriter Emily Drew, that love came in the form of a bargain-priced guitar during a time when nothing else seemed to make sense in life. Inspired by friends in her music scene, Drew began learning her new hobby, hour-after-hour, behind closed doors. With a goal of one year to step foot onto her first open mic stage, she finally performed her first three songs. It was love and there was no turning back. Throughout the years, Drew studied fashion design, marketing and traveled to London where she learned the art of sound engineering; all the while continuing to play open mics. After moving back to Florida, she spent the next few years playing shows and gaining fans but struggled with the feeling that her songs and home recordings were not up to par. Eventually Drew made her way to San Diego. In a city known for its year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches and a chill Southern California vibe, she found her voice which brought about a new confidence to begin pursuing music as a career. As a proper SD local, she jumped into the So-Cal lifestyle with surfing and yoga. As those began to reshape her mind and spirit, they eventually began to make their way into her music. After years of vocal lessons and working on her own to have a studio-quality album, Drew found she was still struggling to make her mark in the music scene. But thanks to a generous friend who believed in her music during this time, she began to record her first EP. The new EP titled The Finer Things, will be released with six songs that reflect Drew’s growing awareness that the finer things in life are free and within each person, they hold everything needed to be happy. In “Dreaming Away”, Drew shares her struggle to get to this point in her life. “Salty Skin” is an upbeat ballad about love in the waters of San Diego and is sure to become a summertime favorite. The Finer Things encompasses all sides of Emily Drew with a soulful and vibrant sound that comes from a pure love of her craft.
