"IMPOSTERS & ATTRACTIONS: MUSIC INSPIRED BY ELVIS COSTELLO" SET FOR RECORD STORE DAY RELEASE! New album of 10 Slate originals and 2 Costello classics to be available via all digital platforms and free at www.jeffslate.net Available everywhere on Record Store Day -- Friday, November 29, 2013 While hard at work on the follow-up to 2012s wildly successful Birds of Paradox, Jeff Slate has recorded an album mixing original compositions with two Elvis Costello classics and will make the results available to fans on Record Store Day, November 29, 2013. I've been working on writing the follow-up to Birds of Paradox for a few months now and I'm almost done," Slate said. "But making a proper second solo album is going to take a little time and I didn't want everyone to have to wait another six months for new music. I had a few batches of songs that were really just exercises, where I was trying to see if I could write in the style of another writer. One group had an Elvis Costello feel. So we spent a day or two on the drums and guitars, a day on bass, a day on keyboards and a couple of days on vocals and... Voilà ! A new album. It was a great way to get the creative juices flowing and I think if you're a fan of Elvis -- or of mine, for that matter -- you'll really enjoy this one." The six new original compositions -- with titles like "Everybody's Entitled", "Stolen Moments", "Transition Man", "Your Kind Of Girl", "The Other Woman" and "Don't You Ever Get Lonely?" -- will be coupled with the Costello classics "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" and "45", plus alternate versions of Slate originals from both his solo years and tenure with The Badge, including "She Was A Princess", "My Dolly", "Mr. Destiny" and "Unfinished Business". "The new songs aren't really new, they're songs I'd written over the years but never found a home on any albums because they were a little 'too Elvis' to my ears, but this is the perfect place for them," Slate confessed. "The Elvis tracks are songs I've always loved and have sometimes played live. And the previously released tracks were more homage than anything else. Now they can be heard in new versions and in a new light." The album features Slate on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Paolo Provenzano and Alex Alexander on drums, Rick Mullen on bass and Joe McGinty on keyboards. The bonus tracks also feature Steve Holley, Laurence Juber, Simon Townshend, Gene Parsons, Adam Ippolito, Gary Van Scyoc and Eric Lichter. The arresting artwork once again pairs a painting by artist Rick Hunt of Littleton, New Hampshire with a graphic design dreamed up by Slate and Jared Friedman of Econo Graphics of Brooklyn, New York. Jeff Slate (vocals, guitar) is a singer/songwriter from New York City. He co-founded the 1980’s mod/punk band the Mindless Thinkers, who were mainstays on the Northeast college circuit. In the mid-90’s he released “The Townshend Tapes”, on which The Who’s Pete Townshend acted as Executive Producer, and opened for Sheryl Crow on her “Tuesday Night Music Club” tour. In 1997 he founded the band The Badge, who released four albums and countless singles, EPs and live “bootleg” sets and went on to become darlings of the UK/European “mod” scene in the 2000’s. In 2010 Jeff released the single “Dreamtime”, which featured Earl Slick (Lennon, Bowie) and Carlos Alomar (Bowie, Lennon). “Birds of Paradox” is his first solo album of original material. Jeff has appeared on television and radio numerous times and his songs have appeared in network television shows and major motion pictures. Jeff proudly endorses Gibson/Epiphone guitars, Hofner basses and Vox amps.
