简介

Great composers were drawn to writing for the piano. With double the number of keys and fingers available, performing on two pianos provided more possibilities re sonority, texture, and volume than performing on one piano. A number of composers, including those on this CD, wrote substantial, demanding duo-piano works, with complex contrapuntal lines, rich harmonic progressions, and rhythms and ideas tossed back and forth. Among the greatest composers for duet and two pianos were the French, including Bizet, Faure, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, and Ravel, and the Russian Rachmaninoff. Along with other major composers, these composers often wrote works for piano duet or two pianos before orchestrating them. However, the original piano versions stand as strong works on their own. Most of the works included here are dances and festive celebrations. Critics and audiences throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, and South Korea have praised the performances of duo-piano team Redekopp and Edwards. In recent seasons they have performed at the Indiana University Liszt Mini-Fest, released a CD, “Two Piano Tapestry: Redekopp and Edwards,” completed their second concert tour of Japan, made their radio broadcast debut on “Live from WFMT Chicago: the Fazioli Salon Series” and released CD/DVD recordings of a live performance of “The Mennonite Piano Concerto with Audience Hymn Sing.” They have also performed a concert for the Music Institute of Chicago in Evanston Winter Duo-Piano Festival, at the University of Chicago, University of Arkansas, Gordon College, University of Manitoba, and Kings University College in Edmonton. In addition to a three-week tour of Japan and South Korea and performances in England, their concerts have included guest appearances with the Kenosha Symphony, the DuPage Symphony, the Bel Canto Chorus, the West Suburban Choral Union and Orchestra, and the Sullivan Chamber Ensemble. They have also performed concerts on the Valley Concert Society Artist Series in Abbotsford, British Columbia, the Green Lake Festival at Lawrence University, the Paine Art Center and Arboretum Concert Series in Oshkosh, the Evenings at the Bernsen Concert Series in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Freeport Community Concert Association Series, the Bethany Arts Series in Crystal Lake (IL), the St. John’s Flagg Theatre Concert Series in Milwaukee, the Geneva Concert Series, Mount Carmel Concert Series in Milwaukee, and the Baker Memorial United Methodist Church of St. Charles Concert Series; in St. Louis, Nashville, Indianapolis and Kenosha; and at the, University of Kentucky at Lexington, Illinois Wesleyan University, Western Illinois University, Goshen College, Wheaton College, Asbury College, Carroll College, Marshall University, Judson University, Aurora University, Carthage College, St. Mary's College, Augustana College, Evangel University, Elmhurst College, the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee. Redekopp and Edwards have conducted master classes in Japan, South Korea, and the United States, and have presented lecture/recitals on duo and duet playing at several MTNA state conventions, including the 2013 Illinois State Music Teachers Association Conference, and at numerous piano teaching workshops. They have served as guest artists and clinicians for the five-day Goshen College Piano Teachers Workshop. The husband-and-wife team met while studying with Abbey Simon at Indiana University. Karin Redekopp Edwards is professor of piano at Wheaton College (IL) and has served as pianist for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Mark Edwards, a graduate of Eastman School of Music, is the organist at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church of St Charles (IL).
