Sarah Jane McMahon enjoys a career of rare distinction on two continents. Greatly acclaimed for her singing, musicality, and acting, the New Orleans born soprano has performed throughout the United States, as well as Germany and Austria. A particular favorite of the New York City Opera, Sarah Jane was awarded the KolozsvarAward for her performance as Galatea in Handel’s Acis and Galatea. Always happy to perform in her home town, Sarah Jane has delighted local audiences with numerous performances, including Puccini’s La Bohème, Bizet’s Carmen, and Bernstein’s West Side Story, to name only a few. To be remembered forever by those lucky enough to hear it was her duet of “Tonight” with legendary tenor Plácido Domingo, part of an extraordinary 2009 concert to re-open The Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts which had been shuttered since Hurricane Katrina. Sarah Jane McMahon is an artist who redefines the word “versatility.” She is equally at home in opera, operetta, the Broadway stage, and especially in the prayerful world of sacred music. Wherever she appears, Sarah Jane McMahon upholds the highest of vocal virtues and acquires new fans and admirers whenever she sings.
