Conscious Sleep is the first CD in the Medi-Music series conceptualized by H.N. Bhaskar and Shankar Viswanathan. The main objective of this album is to provide music for sleep and relaxation for people and their pets. H.N. Bhaskar is an internationally renowned violinist while Shankar is a multi-percussionist. The album features Bhaskar on the violin, Shankar on the Jews Harp and Konnakol (Vocal percussion) and the young 14 year old Shiva Bharadwaj on Mridangam. The first two pieces relax you and help you fall asleep. In 'Nidra', the violin mesmerizes as you slowly fall away into sleep. The soothing melody and the distant rhythms keep you relaxed as you listen to 'Euphoria'. 'Heart Song' is a gentle lullaby consisting of the Jews Harp and the violin and also the distant sounds of the Kanjira. The last piece 'Alive' soars with energetic syncopation. Cheerful and upbeat, it slows into an indolent, relaxing end. There is scat singing, Indian style with the Konnakol.
