简介
"Killing time in a lonely hotel room before a gig in Germany, my first source for this project were the so-called 'red' and 'blue' compilations." says Phil Abraham. "I chose the songs I liked and which also seemed to have Jazz potential. Later we broadened the scope of my first selection. That's where this collection of songs comes from." And a superb collection it is, brought to you live by some of the finest Belgian Jazz musicians. Phil and the band - not to forget Chantal Willie, of course ! - patiently and lovingly scratched the surface of these 'pop' songs, originally recorded between 1962 and 1969, to help us (re)discover and enjoy the B e a t l e s' m e l o d i c inventiveness and the richness of their rhythms and harmonies. Since its premiere at the Beatles Day in Mons on October 12th 2001, Jazz Me Do has gradually matured into a great show-case for both Beatles' music and for Jazz : from the bluesy Blackbird and the Latin mood of And I Love Her (my personal favourite...) to the Dixieland treatment of When I'm 64 - Octopus's Garden, the exuberance of Hey Jude and the humour in Love Me Do. Thus, for Beatles fans, Jazz Me Do is a perfect introduction to the multifaceted world of Jazz, while for Jazz lovers, it is an excellent door-opener to the wealth and diversity that the world of pop/rock has to offer. Finally, it is proof once more, if need be, that quality transcends labels, and time. Johan Ral (www.belgian-beatles-society.com)
