简介

Having grown up listening to Country and Blues artists such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, Howlin Wolf, as well as being surrounded by what he calls “Redneck folk music of India”, Oliver Rajamani is releasing a new Cd entitled “Texas Gypsy”. The new revolutionary cd is Rajamani's tribute album to Texas. It features Texas legendary artists such as Willie Nelson, Edie Brickell, Eric Johnson, Dale Watson, Cindy Cashdollar, Bob Livingston, Carolyn Wonderland, Joel Guzman. The album also features Roma/Gypsy artists from Hungary and Germany such as Erika Lakatos, Balogh Kalman, and Dotschy Reinhardt of the famous Django Reinhardt Roma/Gypsy family. “Texas Gypsy” is a blending of Indian and Roma/Gypsy musical traditions with Texas musical traditions. There are about 20,000 Romani Americans (Roma) in Texas, out of a national population of about one million. Romani people, commonly known as Gypsies, have been in the Americas since 1498. The Roma/Gypsy trace their historical origins through language and genetics to their homeland in India. Rajamani sings predominantly in English mixed with Tamil and Hindi as he accompanies himself on exotic instruments such as the Indian sarod, Persian setar as well as flamenco guitar. He is backed up by his Texas bands beefy sounds of bass, violin, drumkit plus other percussions. This cd tells a deeply historical, spiritual and exotic story of Texas folklife and culture of today. Some of the songs titled "Texas Fire", "Austin", "Texas Cactus Indian Flower", Cowboy Guru", "Texas Gypsy Romani Rose", "The Apache", “Stay In Me”, are clearly ground breaking in terms of the lyrical messages and stories based on recent historical events of Texas. Rajamani shows the beauty and the Lone Star pride of Texas in his music. This is truely original music born in Austin, Texas with its roots spreading over the Globe. It is truely historical when one can witness Texans waltzing to "Tennessie Waltz" played on the Indian Sarod and sung by Oliver in his deep throated voice. Oliver brakes the walls of traditions by showing the beauty of each tradition comfortably. His audience is made up of conservative and liberal Americans , to all international communities, from young to old, to the most poor and homeless from Texas to other parts of the Globe.
