Random Acts contains poetry set to music as well as fully developed musical interludes featuring a large range of musical styles, ranging from jazz fusion, to experimental rock, to industrial beat, to trance. The poems focus on poet Anthony Fonseca's years in San Antonio, Texas and Northampton, Massachusetts. Topics range from the mythical to the historical to the personal, and poems feature characters such as Baron Sunday, Frida Kahlo, and H. D. (Hilda Doolittle). Most of the poems are thoughtful and pensive in nature. The music, by Spinning Cat, was created to accompany each poem, without becoming background music; in other words, in each track, music and poetry get equal emphasis and are equally memorable. Musical styles for each track are organic to the content of the spoken word.
