"On a Still and Starry Night," the title song for this album, was written one day when I was listening to an old classic--"Silver Bells." "Silver Bells" is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever, but as I listened to the introduction... "Whatever happens... here is what Christmastime means to me..." I realized that the song then goes on to list some of the most trivial aspects of the season. Nostalgic and wonderful to be sure, but not exactly what Christmas means to me. So I started listing the things Christmas means to *me* personally, and soon came up with this verse... There is hope in every dawning; there is purpose in our days; There is promise in our longing and rejoice in our praise. There is comfort for our yearning; in our darkness there is light Because the Father sent His Son to us on a still and starry night. This album is full of the thoughts and feelings that make up what Christmas means to me. Working with Allyse was a pleasure. Her voice is just so... Christmassy! Since I met her several years ago I've schemed about collaborating on a Christmas project, and this is the result.
