简介
he legendary Marillion guitarist and founding member Steve Rothery has long been known for his unique playing style. His forthcoming solo album ‘The Ghosts of Pripyat, due out on the 2nd of February 2015 through InsideOutMusic was financed by an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign which reached its fifteen thousand pound target in the first 24 hours, and it went on to raise almost sixty thousand pounds, cementing the already rock solid relationship that he has built with his fans worldwide. At one point it was even the second most popular music project on Kickstarter in the world. The studio album not only sees him helped by his fans, but a raft of guest musicians too, including Steve Hackett, Steven Wilson and many more. Steve had to say about “The Ghosts Of Pripyat”: ‘This album has been a long time coming. I had an offer to record a solo album during the recording of Misplaced Childhood in 1985 and while making the Brave album at Miles Copeland’s chateau in France I was offered a deal to make an instrumental album for his “No Speak” label, however, I decided to record the first Wishing Tree album instead. Fast forward another twenty years and I’m invited to play at the annual Plovdiv guitar festival in October 013. Having committed to the festival it left me with the small problem of what to play for an hour. “Blues in A” just wasn’t going to cut it. I had a few strong ideas and got together for a couple of writing sessions with my good friend and fellow guitarist Dave Foster. Dave and I have a great musical chemistry which brought forth a lot of amazing music. After a couple of days rehearsal with the fantastic rhythm section of Leon Parr and Yatim Halimi I realised this was going to be something really special. The live in Plovdiv album and video from that performance gives you an idea of where I felt the finished album, “The Ghosts of Pripyat”, could go. The incredible success of the Kickstarter campaign has made this album possible. I have been amazed and humbled at the support I’ve received. The Ghosts of Pripyat album has two fantastic guest performances from Steve Hackett on “Morpheus” and “The Old Man of the Sea” which also features a great solo by Steven Wilson. The cover image of the album is an aerial shot of Pripyat by French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand and the artwork is by the legendary Lasse Hoile.’ In late 2014 Steve Rothery toured Europe in support of this solo album, with more dates on the horizon.
