Jade CDs are widely heard on national and fine music stations throughout Australia, and are recognised as a valuable resource by educational authorities as being uniquely representative of the work of Australian composers. They are manufactured in limited runs of 500 and, as stocks are therefore limited, may be regarded as collectors' items! All Jade CD covers are distinctive. Duration: 71.45 Summary: This Compact Disc presents music by five of Australia's finest composers performed by some of Australias leading artists, including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Patrick Thomas playing Allworth's much-broadcast 9-movement "Australia Suite". Track list & more details: Track 1. Dulcie Holland - "Joyful Departure". Composed In 1977 this is one of Dulcie Holland's most spirited pieces and displays a remarkable gift for writing very appealing organ music. It is fitting to present this in her 80th Year, when much of her other music is being presented in concerts of her music throughout Australia. Lawrence Bartlett - Organ. Recorded by EMI in Saint Michael's Church, Vaucluse 16/2/93 Sound Engineer - Peter Cobbin. Track 2. Ann Carr-Boyd is featured with one of her newest works "Three Fantastic Dances" (After Shostakovich): Presto - Langoroso e Misterioso - Tempo di Waltz Con Piquancy. The two outer movements are full of life & character while the slow central movement is mysterious & compelling. The work was commisioned by Adrian Hooper for performance by The Sydney Mandolins who are heard in this recording. Adrian Hooper & Paul Hooper - Mandolins; Joyce Bootsma - Mandola; Barbara Hooper - Guitar. The Third Movement features a solo banjo part played by Adrian Hooper. Eric Gross contributes Piano Pieces Op. 169 (1989) : Lonely Desert / Alone & Sad / Meandering In Series. These three pieces show Eric Gross in an introspective & intimate mood employing serial technique to create an atmospheric & contemplative effect. Solo piano is by Ray Resnik. Recording by 2MBS - FM 26/5/9; Sound Engineer - Denis Eddy. Track 4. Robert Allworth - "Symphony" (1986) This one movement work owes much to the compositional technique of Anton Webern. The Symphony is dedicated to Nigel Butterley, whose own work titled "Symphony" was a source of inspiration to the composer. Betty Beath is represented with her religious music. "Three Psalms" (1981): Psalm 23 "The Lord Is My Shepherd"; Psalm 121 "I Lift Up My Eyes To The Hills" and Psalm 150 "Praise The Lord". "Sermon To The Birds" was composed in 1986 to words by Giovanni Pascali (Original Title "La predica Agli Uccelli"). English translation is by John Gransden. In an unusual touch, the solo soprano part is sung using the English translation and the alto voice sings the original Italian text.
