ALBUM REVIEW: If you look up “M!sfit” in the dictionary, all it will say is this: the freshest breath of air since the first breath was taken. I’ve had ample opportunity to both listen to this project and lightweight promote it and the common question I’m asked is, “Who does he sound like?” The short (and long-winded) answer for this is “no one and everybody.” M!sfit, true to his name, is incomparable to anyone else you’ve ever heard, but you feel like you’ve heard him someplace before. He’s also relatable- sounds like the kind of guy you’d be friends with now, but probably not when you were in high school. Well, unless you, too, were a M!sfit. You get a real sense of who he is as an artist/person in songs like “Training Wheels” and “Misfit Go II”. Not without controversy, you get heavy doses of it in “Plastic Surgery” (whose title makes its content self-explanatory) and “New Direction” (with his current take on modern day “swag”. He doesn’t use that word, of course. He’s too awesome for that). But the heart of this album is “Late Bloomer”. He spits that sh*t and then drops the mic, leaving you with your bottom jaw hanging. Honestly, if someone named “M!sfit” intended to have a single, that might be it. But if you strive to be a Barbie doll or a monster, chances are you might miss the raw, beautiful intensity of such a single. The album, for me, was long enough to keep me entranced, but short enough to leave me wanting more. If I were going to caution you about anything, it might be to watch what you say because you could easily be recorded saying something awesome that winds up on his next album! People say that the best things in life are worth waiting for. Whoever said that was talking about this project. Bottom line: if the music world we are currently living in crumbled and a new society arose, I wouldn’t want to go into it being anything else but a m!sfit. -Chardriana Sheppard
