简介
Amidst a music industry full of cliches and manufactured pop stars Kaz stands un-compromised, crafting his own innovative blend of Hip Hop based eclecticism and drawing inspiration from all types of music regardless of genre or category. In his hometown of Worcester, MA (a.k.a. Wortown) Kaz is well known for his creativity and originality as an artist as well as a producer. Earning well-deserved praise in local as well as national media. Kaz has been mentioned in such notable national publications as The Source magazine. In the late eighties Kaz was a member of a local rap trio called Chaos, one of the first groups at the core of Wortown's original hip-hop scene. Kaz also was involved in the development of many other rap crews. He earned his stripes by performing and winning rap and beat box contests at local venues, as well as local street corner battles. "At that time there was such a contagious enthusiasm surrounding hip-hop. It was full of innovation and there were no boundaries. That is what originally attracted me to Hip-Hop music." Kaz proved to be a quick study at all things Hip-Hop. He developed a love for studio recording and became a self-confessed studio addict. "I am most comfortable in the studio late at night. I really like to focus intimately on what I'm creating. There is nothing more conducive to that than solitude. "Samplers, turntables, drum machines, vintage synthesizers and studio gadgets, became the tools of his trade. Kaz mastered his craft, notoriously producing flawless 4 track demos that were often mistaken for high quality studio recordings. Writing and producing his own music as well as other artists, Kaz has made a lasting impression on the Wortown music scene. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Kaz surprisingly has no formal musical training. He spent time teaching himself to play instruments such as guitar, keys and drums. Also developing his singing technique and multi-layered harmonies. "I learned how to do these things out of necessity, if I needed piano, then I taught myself the part and played it." Kaz's unique sound mixes the organic with the electronic. Blending live instruments with sampled and programmed Hip-Hop beats became his trademark. "My listening habits have always been very eclectic, so I create in the same fashion. Mixing styles in a way that could be considered different is not something that I do consciously, it comes very naturally to me." In 1998, writers praised Kaz for his work on the award winning "Live in Peace" CD. In 1999-2000, Kaz worked with the independent label 3rd Degree Records, producing local favorites like Mingo's "My Ride" and Billy Pain's "Scorpion Summer". "I have gained some notoriety as a rapper and as a Hip-Hop producer. It's fulfilling to be acknowledged in any way. But it also gives a limited impression of my work and who I am as an artist. That is what my new album is about...changing that limited impression." Now in 2004 Kaz is currently promoting his new CD entitled "THE SHI ...". Four years in the making, Kaz considers the album his most definitive work to date. "I have always been making music like this. I am glad to finally be able to share my music in its totality." "THE SHI..." fully explores the depths of Kaz's skills as an artist and producer. Performing the majority of the album himself, while skillfully utilizing the talents of others. The new material ranges from original new rap hybrids to melodic Rhythm and Blues and funk. Look for "THE SHI..." in local stores March 26th. Nationally it will be available through CD Baby.com.
