In early 2011, singer/song-writer/musician Cole Powell took a 9 track demo to Route 1 Recording Studios in Monticello, Mississippi, where he was introduced to producer/engineer/musician Nick Smith. After Nick quickly assembled a stellar group of professional musicians, production officially began on Cole’s debut release. After several months of production, Cole emerged from the studio triumphantly with the album Thanks for the Broken Heart: an effort which Cole describes as “the best of my tastes, styles, and influences rolled into a tight, mainstream, alternative pop/rock package.” With this debut commercial release, Cole Powell puts a signature stamp on the modern pop/rock genre by combining his classic rock roots with sounds of modern mainstream pop radio to produce a diverse alternative pop/rock sound. While some tracks on the album possess a distinct indie feel, others display a sound in the vain of top modern acts such as Gavin DeGraw, Train, and Maroon 5.
