Originally formed in Manchester in 2006 by Alex McCue (drums) and John Spoors (guitar), Moriarti have since gigged all over the UK. Now based in London, it was with the 2008-9 recruitment of Nathan Painter (vocals, guitar) and Marc Shackman (bass) that the band finally achieved a balanced line-up. As a live act the band rapidly alternates between all-out assaults on the eardrums and quieter, more reflective passages via galloping drums and searing guitar solos. Loud and raucous, there is always a melody throughout the songs to capture your attention, hook you in and ensure that you still are humming the songs on the bus home. All of this takes place within Moriarti’s trademark medium of short and punchy three-minute songs, which are carefully honed to pack a wallop while avoiding the lengthy excesses of many other guitar-heavy acts. This means that despite their perhaps conventional line-up, Moriarti are a genuinely versatile group that retain a power and style that is all their own. February 2010 saw the Moriarti boys team up with legendary producer Mark Spencer and engineer Dave Martell (who have previously worked with the likes of Metallica, Robert Plant and Duran Duran) and enter Delta Studios in Kent. They emerged with 'Bouverie Mews' which perfectly captures the crashing rhythm, electric lead and powerful vocals of this truly unique sounding band.
