简介
Canadian indie sound explorers from Winnipeg and rural prairie towns, Slow Spirit sounds like a post-rock re-visitation of Joni Mitchell’s 70s jazz-fusion ideologies. Snapshot lyricism is set to sprawling melodies, overdriven fingerpicking, self-oscillating delays, down-sampled synthesizers, lydian parallel harmony, and polyrhythmic breakbeats. “Slow Spirit conjures the sublime: the harmonic markings of jazz, impelled by visceral and frolicking rhythms, morph with punk rock’s defiant fury and a species of poetry that’s at once impassioned and spectral.” Stylus Magazine Slow Spirit aspires to invent songs bridging pop-paced melody with post-rock experimentation, subtle poetry with breakbeats. Meeting at Brandon University’s School of Music in Manitoba some years ago and pleased to find each other moving along equally diverse paths in music ever since - from folk to punk, hip-hop jam bands to ambient noise ensembles - the four members of Slow Spirit join to create a sound not unlike the experimentations of Joni Mitchell and Radiohead. The proud creators of 4 DIY EPs distributed at their shows around the Winnipeg music scene and at Manitoban music festivals - including the Brandon Folk Festival, Festivale du Voyageur, Rainbow Trout Music Festival, and Shine On Music Festival - Slow Spirit is gearing up to release their Debut Album in 2017. “Beautifully balanced, rich, and organic, Slow Spirit sends listeners into that mellow introspection you only hope to see in cinema. This is an absolute must-hear.” - Ashley Au, The Rooster “This is stationary music meant for a sinking sofa and a good sound system. Or maybe a short ride into the moonlit woods. It’s about taking in reality and reforming your thoughts around the surface of consciousness.” - Ethan Skeleton, The Equal Ground
