简介
O.G. RO was born and raised on the North side of Flint Michigan. His real name Romell Mahan grew up in a community where there was poverty all around him, no jobs, high crime rate and where people made fast money selling drugs. He encountered a lot of challenges in his life early on. One challenge was living with an abusive alcoholic stepfather who frequently beat him and his mother. Due to results of the abuse, he was taken away from the only home he knew and was forced to stay in foster homes. He stayed there for two years and then was given back to his mother and step father where the abuse continued on. That occurred until he witnessed the death of his stepfather being shot one late night between him and his uncle while drinking. This was at the young age of eleven. His mother tried as hard as she could to raise him in the right direction. While growing up, his mother would take him to church twice a week. Instead of turning to God, he turned to the streets at fifteen selling drugs, being in gangs, hanging with the wrong people and getting in trouble with the law. Since he was not walking with the Lord, this life eventually caught up with him. He was arrested and sent to jail. This also saved his life. This is the beginning of his journey with Christ. Romell was tired of the way he was living, he looked up to the wrong people, and was fed up and frustrated. He wanted more, he wanted a better life. During his incarceration he told a fellow inmate that he doubted God and didn’t believe he cared. This man spoke to him and said “If you want God to work in your life, you needed to completely surrender whole heartedly to God. “ So In his heart, he tested God. Later that night in his cell he cried out to God. He prayed and said, “If you are real, reveal yourself to me, show me you are real.” As he slept that night, he had a profound dream. He dreamed that he was in an open field and he got ready to get up from lying down. As he was getting up a hand touched his chest. At that moment the most indescribable overwhelming feeling came over him. It was the greatest feeling he ever felt in his life. In his dream he looked over to the right and saw feet with sandals on. He looked up and saw a long white robe. He tried looking at the face but it was so bright, it blinded him and he had to look away. He then heard a very loud voice like thunder stating, “My son, you are blessed.” From that very moment on, his outlook on life was different. He had a new understanding of the word of God. When he read the word of God, it was not just a bunch of words in a bible. It was real. Every word felt like it was specifically written for him. Shortly after Romell started attending bible study, got married and had children. One day he was telling a friend that he did music in high school and wished he could still do it. This friend suggested he try out doing Christian rap. So Romell tried and realized he not only enjoyed it but could use it as a tool to bring people to Christ. Romell felt that although he went through trials, there was a reason. It was so he could be a testimony to others that have been in situations that were close to his. Since coming to Christ and doing Christian music a lot of doors have open up to him. He has been steadily doing Christian rap music since 2006 performing his music at various Christian venues.
