“Moraes, always an irrepressibly effervescent performer...” LOS ANGELES TIMES It has been an incredible journey since I moved to Los Angeles from Rio de Janeiro. I'm grateful and honored to have composed, recorded, and performed with generous and talented people with whom I've learned so much. I began my career in Rio de Janeiro in the 1980's singing with the band "O Espírito da Coisa.” In 1990 I moved to LA for a year and started performing with The Rio Thing. Since then, I’ve performed and/or recorded with Sergio Mendes, Airto Moreira, Oscar Castro-Neves, Rita Lee, Elba Ramalho, Sandy and Junior, Banda Cheiro de Amor, and also with George Duke, Latin Grammy nominee Alex Acuña and Justo Almario's Tolú, Grammy nominee "Latin Project," German saxophonist Praful, among others. Besides lending my voice to films and television for dubbing, I also made part of several local Brazilian bands like Pure Samba, 22-piece Orchestra Feijoada Completa, Samba Society, Bloco Nove, Falso Baiano, The Rio Thing, Midnight Drums, Sol & Mar, Viver Brasil Dance Company, Folk Ballet of Brasil, Badauê, and Man and Machine. From 1996 to 2009 I composed, performed and released five CDs with Sambaguru band, and "Tribo" was on the Preliminary Nominating Ballot for the Grammy 2009. “Cabeça”, my first solo EP, produced by sound engineer/producer/composer Lynne Earls (K.D.Lang, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim) appeared in 2013 followed by a video directed by Caesar Lima. One day, guided by an immense artistic curiosity, I created the “Brazilian Heart, a Celebration” Series. The musical series pays homage to influential Brazilian artists like Elis Regina (2012), Clara Nunes (2013), Maria Bethânia (2014), Noel Rosa (2015), Rita Lee & Beyond (2016), and Tom Jobim Meet American Jazz Divas (2017).
