简介
Robyn Ludwick did two things that will forever imprint her career: She chose not to use her illustrious maiden name, Robison, and she waited until she was good and ready to seriously pursue music. Growing up in Bandera, Texas with her two brothers and sister, some of Robyn's earliest memories were those falling asleep across folding chairs in Texas dancehalls where her grandparents danced to live music every weekend. Or running barefoot through Bandera's Purple Cow, where her mother tended bar as "Whiskey River" and "Rolling with the Flow" played for the millionth time on the jukebox. "Where I come from, music was always there…my father told me that they set up my crib at Floores Country Store so that they could see Willie Nelson play." Teaching herself play the guitar at age 15, Robyn's influences were far beyond her years (Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris) listening to albums already 20 years old. As a teenager, she was slipping off to Live Music Capital Austin, Texas every weekend to hear music. Inevitably, Robyn moved to Austin immediately after high school and soon married Austin bassist John Ludwick. Just after she and husband John had their first child, and felt their road had been paved, a set of intense life changes woke Robyn’s sleeping songwriter at age 30. "It just pretty much poured out at that point. I guess it was time, you know." Robyn dove headlong into her craft, taking on a music career that she feared would be overshadowed by the wealth of family talent that came before her (older brothers Charlie and Bruce Robison and in-laws Kelly Willis and Dixie Chick Emily Robison). The critics also agreed that it was time, as Ludwick’s 2005 debut For So Long, produced by Danny Barnes (Dave Mathews), was named a top 10 album of the year by both the Austin Chronicle, and renowned Austin public radio station 90.5 KUT-FM. It went to No. 1 on the Euro-Americana Music Chart and earned her a raved-about No Depression SXSW showcase and a slot at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Ever since, Robyn has set her mark on the map of great Americana songwriting. Her music and story-telling has been called “The best of Americana and better yet the Best of Texas”. Robyn’s latest album, Out of these Blues, features a dizzying cast, including Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams), Ian “Mac” MacLagan (Rolling Stones), and Gene Elders (George Strait, Lyle Lovett). Critically acclaimed Out of these Blues, received numerous accolades including Top 10 Album honors from Austin City Limits, No Depression, Texas Music Magazine and 93.3 KGSR as well as Best Album of the year by the Texas Music Scene, No Depression’s Best Female Musicians and nominations for Best Female Vocalist and Best Singer-Songwriter-Folk at the Lone Star Music Awards. Robyn’s recent performances and creative collaborations with Australian Singer-Songwriter, Producer and Multi-Instrumentalist Bill Chambers has spurred rumours of a Ludwick-Chambers Duet Album planned for a 2014 national release. Bill Chambers, father of Kasey Chambers is one of those growling singers who owes a substantial debt to both Bob Dylan and John Prine. Perhaps it’s a result of those early weathered years he spent roughing it in the outback with his family. "My kids Nash and Kasey grew up listening only to the music I played on cassettes or on my guitar around the campfire. Songs of Hank Williams, the Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne and John Prine," remembers Bill. "I'm entirely self taught. I guess that's why I sound like I do." There's much more to Bill Chambers than just being Kasey's dad. The patriarch of the Chambers Clan is considered by some to be Australia's premier alt-country guitarist. He can be a master of delicate picking on Dobro or Lap Steel and a demon on Slide. Along with producing albums for the likes of Catherine Britt, Audrey Auld, Bec Willis (co-produced with Kasey) and the Dead Ringer Band, Bill has still found time to write most of the songs on his albums - the ARIA nominated 'Sleeping With The Blues' , ‘Frozen Ground’ and his most recent, 'Drifting South'. "What I love the best is to get out on the road and perform the songs. I still play in Kasey's band when she's on the road and the gigs take us all over the world. That's where I get many of the stories for my songs," says Bill. Most recently Bill recorded his first DVD ‘Live At The Pub, Tamworth’, reliving the great atmosphere that his Tamworth sessions have become famous for. Showcasing Bill’s best original songs, his large collection of guitars and guest appearances by the likes of Shane Nicholson, Kevin Bennett and Kasey Chambers. Richard Jinman from The Sydney magazine describes Bill’s music as reminiscent of Daniel Lanois eerily spacious work, all elongated guitar phrases, shuffling drums and ambient rumbling, the combined effect is as seductive as hell.
