“Useless” is one of the Plastic Planets' heavier tracks, inspired by love’s power of destruction and its ability to overtake. The self-titled debut album is a full-length, self-produced 10-track endeavor. The current lineup of Eric Van Lugo (bass/lead vox), Bradd Shapiro (guitar/vox) and Jeffrey Alan Wright (drums/vox) only formed in 2014, but they have been making music together for years. Orlando Music Examiner’s Kat Coffin raves, “Plastic Planets is relatively new on the Orlando music scene… but they are far from newcomers.” In 2010, Van Lugo and Wright moved on from their collaboration with Orlando-based band, Social Ghost, which began in 2004. While Wright was on tour with Blue Man Group from 2010-2012, Lugo rented a private rehearsal space. Here, equipped with only his 16-track digital recorder and sleeping bag, he tirelessly wrote hundreds of songs, some of which would eventually become the debut release. Upon Wright's return from the road, the then-duo teamed up with MuteMath bassist, Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas, who would co-produce the album and fulfill guitar duties until the band found a permanent fit. The addition of Bradd Shapiro, w ho had previously played with Van Lugo in several bands, completed the trio. In early 2014, Plastic Planets kicked off an Eastern US tour with an unforgettable set at the Florida Music Festival with special guest Ben Kenney (Incubus/The Roots). The trio is noted for their hooked-infused yet technical songwriting, three part harmonies, use of electronics and DIY self-contained LED light show. The debut self-titled LP will be released later this year. The band continues to write music, make videos and perform live, with plans to tour in the second half of 2015.
