Grant Farm's trademark "Cris-co" beat (a hybrid of country and disco in the style of some 60s and 70s country artists like Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Reed). Simple, fun country-rock bluesy number. Tyler sings lead. Guests Keith Moseley on bass and Andy Thorn on electric banjo and tenor vocal. Bluegrass version previously recorded on Emmitt-Nershi Band CD New Country Blues. 2. The Times Have Changed (T. Grant) - 4:29 The feel-good hit of the Summer! Fun, funky rhythm riff and uplifting message in the vocal. Hot guitar jam at the end. Reminiscent of Allmans, Grateful Dead, Funky Meters, Hendrix. Tyler vocal. 3. Engineer (T. Grant) - 6:02 Fast train beat with hot lead telecaster guitar. Johnny Cash-style train song with nice three-part harmony by Tyler, Ace and Sean. The only fast song on the program. Long instrumental intro on lead guitar. 4. Tell Me, Tell Me (T. Grant, B. Galloway) - 3:59 Classic country/rock honky-tonk number with catchy chorus. Great for two-stepping and head-bopping. Tyler vocal, Ace tenor vocal. 5. Green Thumb (T. Grant) - 4:25 Sensitive, inspirational ballad with R&B rhythm supplemented with finger snaps and tambourine by Chris. Clean Hendrix-style guitar riffs a-la Little Wing. Nice organ solo. Guest Keith Moseley on bass and tenor vocal. Tyler lead voc. 6. Funky Boulder (T. Grant) - 5:27 Ski-rock (our version of surf-rock) instrumental featuring guitar and electric banjo. 60's rock style groove. Previously recorded on Tyler's acclaimed solo flatpicking CD Up the Neck. 7. High Country Ladies (A. Engfer) - 5:31 Reggae rhythm with old West flavors provided by Sean's accordion. Wistful accordion intro and outro against windy backdrop sets the scene for this Wild West tale of an infamous hard-living lady. Ace sings lead. Tyler and Sean add vocal harmonies. 8. The Nine Pound Hammer (M.Travis, arr. T.Grant) - 4:41 Another party in a song! Cris-co remake of the Merle Travis number that has become a bluegrass standard. Guests Bill Nershi on guitar and Andy Thorn on electric banjo. Everyone gets a solo on this one, including bass and drums. Call-and-response vocal between Tyler's lead and Ace and Sean's backup. 9. (Ain't No) Nuthin' Gonna Stop This Train (B.Galloway) - 4:45 Inspirational lyric, Gospel-style funky rhythm section a-la Jerry Garcia Band. Organ and electric guitar solos, call-and-response vocal tags by Tyler and Ace. 10. Headed For the Falls (S.Foley,E.Gambrell) - 4:05 Moody and flowing textures, bittersweet lonesome yet uplifting lyric. Rhythmically and stylistically different from the rest of the program. Heavy lead guitar against cascading piano lines, reminiscent of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Sean lead voc, backgrounds by Tyler and Ace. Insistent, primal drum beat by Chris. 11. The Way It Ought To Be (T.Grant) - 10:20 Epic rock saga. Complex composed intro section. Country-rock song with inspirational, introspective lyric and groovy, heavy rock rhythm. Extended band jam with heavy lead guitar at the end. The only song on the program that was not abridged from its live version.
