Libby Koch is a singer/songwriter from Houston, Texas. Like many of the independent musicians you’ll hear these days, Libby’s music is not easily defined by one genre of music, be it country, folk, rock, Americana, etc. As is the case with such multi-genre alt-music, perhaps it’s easier to get a feel for what Libby’s sound is like by either giving it a listen or by listing a few of her influences, which include Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris, Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams. Libby was born and raised in Houston and has returned there following a three year stint in Nashville for school. During her time in Nashville, she wrote most of the songs featured on her new full-length album “Redemption.” The 10-song album was recorded with the help of Nashville sound engineers Clark Simmons and Eric Wolburg and contains nine original songs about heartbreak, regret, faith and salvation. The album concludes with a moving cover of Johnny Cash’s classic “I Still Miss Someone.” Libby can now be found performing weekly in Houston on Thursday nights at Ruggles Green, a popular restaurant and bar in town. Her full-length album “Redemption” was preceded by a 2008 EP called “The Barn Burner EP”, which contains 6 songs, all of which are different from the tracks on “Redemption”. The EP was recorded in Nashville with Clark Simmons over a Saturday afternoon in Spring 2008. Libby typically plays live shows in and around the Houston area but is looking to set up gigs in Austin, Dallas, Nashville, NYC, Atlanta, DC and Chicago in 2009.
