简介

British-Asian clarinetist and composer Arun Ghosh presents a new composition for wind orchestra and percussion, inspired by water, ritual and metaphysical journeys. Bringing together forces of young Northern musicians alongside professional players, Ambhas is a large-scale performance piece that draws on ancient heritage and beliefs. ‘Ambhas’, a Sanskrit word for water, and a Celtic word meaning ‘well’ or ‘good’, is the origin of the name of the River Humber. Evoking the spirit of the Vikings and water travellers, Ambhas reimagines ancient journey rituals, expressing our metaphysical relationships to rivers, the sea and celestial waters. This piece is part of PRS Foundation's New Music Biennial 2019. For more information about the project and to download the New Music Biennial album, please visit our project page.
