The music Lojo Russo plays is a well blended variety of roots rock, contemporary folk, blues and Americana. Russo has been described as a songwriter with "a lot of lyrical power", a guitarist with “powerful playing” and a singer with "one hell of a voice" who performs "with the energy and rocking empowerment of Ani DiFranco, the graceful folksiness of the Indigo Girls”, and “the gritty blues of Susan Tedeschi". One promoter went so far as to comment, “This one woman show shows you only need one woman. Lojo Russo has been making music along the Big Muddy for more than 15 years and like the river that’s been her constant companion she moves the music from one genre to the next - powerfully...effortlessly. Russo spent a number of her formative years in Twin Cities bands such as Cats Laughing, Gallowglass and Funks Grove – playing bass, mandolin and guitar in jam, Celtic, freestyle funk and folk genres. The music moves thru her constantly and she lets the tide and current take her where it will. Born in California she still considers Minneapolis her home and currently lives in Iowa.
