简介
Cambodia’s long tradition of music can be evidenced at the temples at Angkor Wat, which boast numerous carvings of musicians playing to dancing Apsara goddesses. Sadly, in April 1975 the Khmer Rouge seized power and began their genocidal rule. Musicians were systematically targeted and killed, to erase the past and return Cambodia to “Year Zero”. It is estimated that less than 20% of them survived the following 4 years under Pol Pot's regime. “An unfinished story” is part of Arn Chorn Pond’s great efforts to ensure that Cambodia's music is not lost. Arn survived the Khmer Rouge as a teenager and spent the following years rebuilding his life in America. He returned to his motherland to find the surviving musicians (the “Masters”) and revive their music. His guiding belief is that Cambodia's history must be preserved and that its music can play a vital role in his country’s healing process. This collection of songs, consists of performances from Arn and the old Masters, recorded at Arn's idyllic rural home and studio over the past 10 years. The music on this compilation has been selected, remixed and lovingly re-mastered by 60 Road Studios. This album brings you the authentic experience of traditional Khmer music with its living, breathing and everyday evolution.
