简介
Daisy debut EP- "Do Be Do"- paints a lyrical landscapes of rural America comprised of cheap hotels, old pick up trucks, bars of music, and love lost, gone bad, and waiting to arrive. Graceful, quirky, and world-wise in the same breath, Daisy’s lush vocals tell stories of travel and the search for home. “I prefer to show rather than tell,” says Daisy of her visually crafted writing style. Influenced by singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov and her co-writing partner Steve Poltz, Daisy’s distinct lyrics, smooth vocals and whimsical harmonies create a unique voice and perspective. Her songwriting has been compared to Texas songwriting legend, Townes Van Zandt. Daisy’s songs are distillations of her life. Raised on a farm by the coast of Washington State and home schooled by Catholic parents, Daisy raised money to buy her first guitar by selling sheep and taught herself how to play in her unheated attic bedroom. “I’ve been writing since I learned how. . . the written word has been my most loyal companion.” Prompted by the practicalities of her blue collar family, Daisy set aside music and creative writing to studied law, politics, and minority rights in college, which lead to a 5 year career in social work with rural women and children impacted by violence in the home. “I had the unique privilege of working with thousands of women on the run from love gone wrong. Social work really transformed me, and my writing. I had to get out. . . . so I drove thousands of miles away from my hometown to Austin, TX to focus on songwriting.” In Austin, Daisy met Daniel Barrett, who produced “Do Be Do” at Rubicon, a home-turned-high-tech recording studio. Daniel and Daisy love food, and applied their approach to cooking to the recording process- using simple, fresh, organic ingredients, combined with skill and love, highlighting the flavor of each component. Daisy and Daniel lovingly created all of the instrumentation for this album, with the assistance of teenage musical genius Nick Ryland on keyboard for the title track. The song “I Told You So” includes a boot-stomping percussion track recorded on the front porch, capturing the voices of neighborhood birds. “Folks ask if my songs are ‘true’- and the answer is yes. My songs are composites of my life and the stories of people I’ve known. These songs are the truest lines I know.” All songs written by Daisy O'Connor; "Do Be Do" co-written with Steve Poltz. © 2014 BMI Daisy O'Connor Music
