简介
Formula 5's third studio effort shows a much more mature and fine-tuned approach than their previous two records. 'All Points North' relies heavily on composition and songwriting as opposed to improv-jamming. The record displays a wide variety of genres ranging from classic Jam-Band Rockers to smooth Neo-Soul grooves to pure Psychedelia. Songs like "It Goes...", "Do Tell" and "Come Along" show that even though they are a "jam-band" they still have the ability to write tight and well written shorter tunes. In contrast other songs such as "Q&A", "Trout Waters, Pt. I & II" and "Figure Out A Feeling" show they still have a penchant to go to the uncharted terrorities of psychedelia with well thought out compositions and great execution. Lyrical content was also another focus this time around for the band and songs like "The Birch Tree" and "It Goes..." reflect on the death of Davis's father who had passed 4 months prior to recording. For those who love the live energy of Formula 5 and the off the rails nature of their improv jamming, there is still something for you, with the raucous and jovial fan favorite "Sad Bed" and the downright evil instrumental "Excalibur." With themes of death and uncertainty, and a emphasis on tight compositions, 'All Points North" shows a mature and focused Formula 5 that's destined to shake things up in the Jam scene.
