The Wonderland project started five years ago, when 13 world-renowned composers each took a chapter of Alice in Wonderland and wrote an original piece for it. The result, commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the book and to raise money for the Lenny Trusler Children’s Foundation, was an incredible collection of beautiful, inspiring music, together with a brand new text by Louis de Bernieres and 13 original illustrations by Emily Woodard. However, there was also a fourteenth piece by none other than Jools Holland. The piece, intended to go with the Lewis Carroll poem ‘From a Fairy to a Child’, was then arranged for string quartet and piano by Carl Davis, and recorded by the newly created Orchid Ensemble. Available for streaming and download now, and with all profits benefitting sick babies and children, this is the culmination of a very special project which has included work by some of the best known figures in the world of music.
