LJ was born in Davao City, Philippines on October 10, 1981. In his early years, he used to play the drums but found himself later in songwriting and guitar. Recently, LJ gained over 3 Million YouTube views. http://www.youtube.com/user/ljte007 At the age of 12, he was a football varsity in school where he studied, also at that age he started to grab the acoustic guitar and after a year he wrote his own composition entitled “Burn my Soul”. When he was 14, under the wide range of influences like The Beatles, Nirvana, Metallica, Michael Jackson and so on, he began to play the electric guitar and won his first band competition in school. Later, his influences were being widened to jazz, funk and R&B. And while making recordings on his own compositions in his band, he also found an interest in playing the classical guitar bringing up new styles such as playing John William’s “Cavatina.” It was in this period where LJ started as well arranging popular songs into a solo guitar. In his college years, he broadened his musical ability by exploring minor instruments like the saxophone and composing music with the piano but not too long when a friend of him said that he has to master one instrument. While enhancing his songwriting and musical arranging, he joined competitions and has been winning several songwriting contest on diverse categories. After proving himself that he can professionally write and arrange songs in a band, he found out that there was nothing unique in being in a band the whole time. After long years of being in a band, he realized that he has to expand his capabilities and create his own niche by forming an acoustic group and gave a try for solo and composes instrumentals as he was induced to play like the Michael Hedges style later. LJ never stopped learning and discovering more on music and its style, he improvised the lap-tapping with two guitars at the same time, one guitar flatted on the lap and another guitar flatted on a table. The reason why he used two guitars in some of his arrangements is not just to add an amazing appearance but to extend the voicing and the harmony as well. Even though LJ has been called a “Genius” by many according to his style and arrangements, he never considered himself as good enough because that might lead him to stop exploring the world of music.
