简介
"Rock music is important to people because it allows them to escape this crazy world. It allows them not to run away from the problems that are there, but to face up to them, but at the same time sort of dance all over them. That's what rock and roll is about." -Pete Townshend In the mid summer of 2010, a 16 year old Jerad Smith decided to post an ad to Craigslist, in search of a lead singer for his band. On that same day, a 14 year old Sierra Carey posted an ad of her own in search of a band. A few messages and a phone call later, "The Resistance" was born... Comprised of Sierra Carey on lead vocals, Jerad Smith on guitar, Ethan Collins on bass, and Jessica Smith on drums, The Resistance began when each member was still in school. The band officially formed on October 8th, 2010, in the garage of Jerad and Jess’ parents. Since the beginning, the group has recorded, mixed, and mastered all of its own music, and they even began construction of a home studio in 2013. Along with audio production, they produce their own music videos, which have collected nearly 60,000 views on Youtube. The band takes enormous pride in their self-sufficiency. By saving money from merchandise sales and shows, the band has been able to purchase their own sound system and furnish their studio. For being as young as they are, they certainly understand the meaning of hard work. The Resistance has played hundreds of shows across the state of Maine, from Howland, to Eastport, to Portland, and all in between. They have also played some successful shows outside of Maine, including the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, and a few packed bars in New Hampshire. They have performed at multiple fairs and festivals throughout the state of Maine, and even shared the stage with past winner of The Voice, Cassadee Pope. They also had the privilege of playing at a meet and greet for the band Seether the night before Rise Above Fest 2015. Their debut album, Loud Enough, was released in 2012 and includes songs like "Second Chances”, “Blacklight”, “The Gem”, and “Forever.” Many songs were played on WKIT, WTOS, WCYY, and multiple college stations. They started writing new music immediately after "Loud Enough" was released, and after 3 years of recording, mixing, and starting from scratch multiple times, they released their EP, 2015, on April 23, 2016. The EP consisted of 6 songs that sound drastically different than the songs on Loud Enough. The band described these new songs as being, “more of themselves than anything else ever has been.” The band plans on taking off in the summer of 2017, after Jessica graduates from high school, and traveling the country. “Maine will always be home,” Sierra said, "but sometimes you just have to take the chance. Far too many bands never risk leaving and end up getting stuck. If we leave and fail, so what? We fail and we come back and play here. But at least we can say that we tried." When asked where they thought they would be in the next 10 years, they responded with: "We don't think about it. In a perfect world, we'd be playing for thousands of people, sharing the stage with some of our idols, and living the dream. But we choose to think day-to-day. In 10 years, we might be getting married and have kids running around at our feet, or we might be rocking out around the world. Either way, this band will be our life, and we'll still be playing music. No matter what happens, music will always be there. Where the future is never set in stone, music is. Music is definite when nothing else is. No matter what, we'll be playing music. That's what we'll be doing for the next 10 years, and the rest of our lives."
