London-based duo PORTEOUS weave together enticing soulful vocals with trip-hop and post-rock vibes. With roots in Ethiopia and Scotland, vocalist Rachel Tesfaye and London-born Hector Barnicot-Hood bring together their hugely varied influences to create a melting pot of sounds. The band came together in December 2014 through a mutual love of classical music, jazz and afrobeat, immersing themselves in moulding their sound (all in a bedroom studio in Camberwell, London). Hector was previously the drummer for indie band Mozart Parties who took part in the NME Awards Tour and Vice Tour – alongside being a session drummer for many different genre bands. Rachel grew up singing in church and has done session singing for different house artists in Glasgow and London – with one project being played on BBC Radio One Introducing. Lead single SIREN from PORTEOUS’s self titled EP brings you up-beat melody with a touch of seduction, and is just a taste of things to come.
